Notes

Marshmallow cream is easier to handle when it is slightly warm. You can always dip the spatula in hot water to make it easier to remove the cream out of the jar.
Serving them cold is a great way to enjoy this treat.
If you don’t have a stove, you can simply heat the butter in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl, add the cream, and then the Rice Krispie cereal.

Kids, teenagers, adults, and everyone in between will love these. This grab and go dessert is easy to make, serve, and store.

Marshmallows are delicious little delicacies. This recipe takes the beauty of marshmallows and levels them up by using the marshmallow cream. If you have never heard of marshmallow cream, let me tell you about it. Marshmallow cream is a fluffy white substance that comes in a plastic container. A lot of people call it “marshmallow fluff”. We have always referred to it as cream.  You can eat it on a spoon or use it in recipes. If you pair it with peanut butter on a graham cracker you are in for a real treat. Try it!

What do homemade rice crispy treats with marshmallow cream taste like?

These rice crispy treats taste sweet and light. They aren’t heavy, so be careful, or you might find yourself eating half of a pan.

What variations are there?

You can use Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Krispies instead of the rice krispies to have a different type of treat. The fruity pebbles are extra sweet and colorful and kids love them. If you are wanting a hint of chocolate, the cocoa krispies are a good choice.

Can I use different brands of cereal and cream/fluff?

Absolutely, but it will change the taste somewhat. I have friends who are very brand specific when making this particular recipe. It is still delicious, but you will taste a difference between the two. Also, the cream texture/consistency changes with different brands. Try out making it different ways and see what you think. You can’t go wrong with Rice Krispies and Jet-Puffed Marshmallow Creme.

Do I serve them when they are warm, room temperature, or cold?

Good question and the answer is, YES! I like to have a big spoon full right out of the saucepan, again while they are cooling, and once again when they are chilled. Win, win, win situation. Enjoy! Let me know in the comments below your favorite way. But really, don’t serve them right when they are spooned out of the pan, because they won’t keep their shape. They do need to cool.

Storage

You can keep them on the counter or in the refrigerator. I cover mine tightly with foil to keep them fresh. If you have a lid for your 9 x 13 that would work great as well.
