A Quick Note on Self-Rising Flour

Self-rising flour already contains a leavening agent, which helps give these cookies their light, fluffy texture. Even so, I still add baking soda and salt to control flavor and structure. That extra salt plays a big role—it balances the sweetness and enhances the chocolate.

A Little Story Behind These Cookies

A friend’s daughter, Kate, shared this recipe with me, and it quickly became a staple in my kitchen.

For a long time, chocolate just didn’t taste right to me. Then I tried these cookies, and something changed. The flavor finally tasted balanced again—rich, slightly salty, and just right. I think the combination of fewer chocolate chips and that extra touch of salt made all the difference.

Now I keep this recipe close because it never disappoints.
