Method
Step 1: Prepare the Overnight Batter
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter and apple cider. Whisk them together until well blended.

Step 2: Add in the “Day Of” Ingredients
- Mix the Ingredients: Add the egg, butter, vanilla extract, salt, and baking powder to the fermented batter.

- Whisk them together until well blended.
Step 3: Cook the Waffles
- Preheat the Waffle Iron.

- Grease the Waffle Iron: Lightly grease the waffle iron with butter or oil to ensure the waffles don’t stick.
- Cook the Waffles: Pour enough batter onto the preheated waffle iron to cover the surface, but don’t overfill. Close the lid and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
- Remove and Serve. We love to top ours with butter and honey! Yum!

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
- Once all the waffles are ready, serve them hot with your favorite toppings. Drizzle with maple syrup, top with honey, add a dollop of whipped cream, or top with fresh fruit for an extra burst of flavor. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch.

Notes
Tips for Perfect Apple Cider Sourdough Waffles
- Choose Quality Cider: Opt for high-quality apple cider to enhance the flavor of your waffles.
- Experiment with Flours: For a nuttier flavor, try using whole wheat flour or a blend of flours in place of all-purpose flour.
- Store Leftovers Properly: If you have leftover waffles, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. You can reheat them in a toaster or oven for a quick breakfast.
