There’s something magical about spending summer in the country. The slower pace, the fresh air, and the simple pleasures make it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This summer, I was able to enjoy many of these escapes and I want to share the highlights of one of them with you. From morning walks through the woods to enjoying a scoop of fresh blackberry cobbler, here’s a glimpse into the simple, sweet life of the county.
Morning Walk Through the Woods
A walk in the woods anytime of the day is amazing. The cooler air from the shade of the trees, and the quiet of the woods is unmatched. If you need a getaway from the constant noise of the city, a walk in the woods is a great place to clear your head and unwind. As I walked along, the only sounds were the rustling leaves and the occasional chirping of birds and squirrels. The tall trees provided a soothing canopy, and I often found myself pausing to admire the sunlight filtering through the leaves. It was the perfect time for reflection on this summer day in the country adventure.
Exploring the Creek
Nothing takes me back to my childhood quite like a creek. I grew up on a creek and would spend long hours exploring it. There was consistency in it, yet something new every time. I enjoyed searching for “fools gold” and little creatures. The creek was surrounded by ferns, tall trees, and other types of forest life. It was a reminder of the simple joys of life.
Visiting a Local Produce Stand
No trip to the county is complete without a visit to a local produce stand. The stand I visited was full of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables. The vibrant colors were irresistible. I picked up some juicy tomatoes, sweet cantaloupe, crisp cucumbers, and admired their beautiful flowers. There’s something pretty cool about knowing where your food comes from and supporting the local gardeners and farmers. The taste of the produce was unbeatable-fresh, flavorful, and perfectly ripe. Plus, it belongs to my sister and her family, which makes it extra special!
Products Made in the USA
I can not wait to try out my new butter churner! My parents and niece found this at a local antique store and it is beautiful. It is made in the USA, which is my favorite thing about it. It just needed a little WD-40 to get the gear moving smoothly and I believe it is ready to try out.
My other great find was a vintage style angel food cake pan, also made in America. It has the little legs to let it cool, and the removable inside. This allows for you to be able to remove it from the pan more easily after it has cooled. I gifted it to someone special and can’t wait for her to try it out!
Savoring Fresh Blackberry Cobbler
One of the true delights of this country adventure was indulging in a homemade blackberry cobbler. Using the fresh blackberries from my vines, my mom baked a delicious cobbler that filled the house with its irresistible smell. There’s nothing quite like a warm, gooey cobbler. It was the perfect end to a day filled with outdoor adventure, and every bite was a taste of summer. Blackberry Cobbler is one our favorites. The recipe is one that you can make. You can also find a FREE printable eBook with several delicious blackberry cobbler recipes HERE.
Back Porch Sitting
There is a special comfort to sitting on a back porch and gliding, rocking, or swiveling in a chair. As the day faded into night, the sound of crickets and frogs filled the air, and the mood began to rise. The relaxing and humorous conversation with loved ones was the perfect way to wind down after a day full of activities.
Encouragement
A summer in the country is a refreshing escape that reminds us of the beauty of simple pleasures. Whether it’s a morning walk through the woods, exploring a creek, or enjoying fresh produce, there’s a certain magic in the slower pace and natural beauty of country living. It’s a reminder to slow down, savor the moment, and appreciate the little things. If you’re looking for a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation, consider spending some time in the country-it’s a breath of fresh air in every sense.

YES! I completely agree!! My husband and I had a relaxing rural getaway over the 4th of July. We live in a Chicago suburb and drove a few hours up to Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. It was a treat! It was quiet, and we didn’t have to wait to get into restaurants. Food was fantastic, hotel service was incredible, and our frenchie was welcome too.It was very peaceful, for sure!”

Lovely post. I find nature very rejuvinating too – even just taking the dogs for a walk down my local rivulet. I’m in Australia so instead of squirrel sounds – where I am I get the occassional but fairly regular platypus sighting. I feel very blessed!
