Traditional Snickerdoodles: Soft and Sugary!

Traditional Snickerdoodles are soft, buttery cookies rolled in cinnamon sugar, creating a delightful crinkly top and warm, spiced flavor. These classic cookies are a nostalgic treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • ½ cup butter flavored Crisco baking stick
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ tsp. salt
Cinnamon Sugar Mixture
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Equipment

  • Mixer (hand held or counter top)
  • measuring bowls and spoons
  • baking sheet pan

Method
 

  1. Heat oven to 400°.

  2. Beat 1 ½ cups sugar, ½ cup butter, ½ cup butter flavored Crisco and 2 eggs in a large bowl with a hand help mixer. You can use a spoon if you want a good workout.
  3. Mix in 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, 2 tsp. cream of tartar, ¼ tsp. salt, and 1 tsp. baking soda. Mix on low speed until incorporated. Don't over-mix.

  4. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 2 tsp. ground cinnamon into a small bowl.

  5. Roll dough into 1 ¼ inch balls.

  6. Roll the dough balls into the cinnamon sugar mixture.

  7. Place them 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

  8. Bake for 7 minutes. Let them cool on a wire rack.

You are baking these at a high temperature. Do NOT over-bake if you want soft cookies.
