Tater Tot Nachos with Ground Venison (totchos)

We’re making tater tot nachos with ground venison today, and you’re going to love how easy this one is. It’s hearty, cheesy, golden brown, and full of flavor. Think of it as the perfect twist on classic nachos—crispy tater tots take the place of tortilla chips, and the seasoned venison brings clean, lean protein to the mix.

Ingredients

  • 1½-2 lb. ground venison
  • 2 pkg. taco seasoning mix
  • 1 pkg. ranch seasoning mix
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 diced yellow onion
Tater Tots
  • 1 lb. frozen mini tater tots
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 pkg. taco seasoning
Tater Top Nachos with Ground Venison Toppings
  • shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • pico de gallo
  • sour cream
  • guacamole and slice avocados
  • sliced black olives
  • jalapenos

Method

  1. In a large saute pan, brown the ground venison, diced onion, and garlic until the meet is cooked through.
  2. Pour in the taco seasoning packets, ranch packet, and water. Bring to a simmer for 1 minute.
Tater Tots
  1. Preheat the oven to 425° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the frozen tater tots, olive oil, and seasoning. Stir until coated. It'll fall off a bit since the tater tots are frozen, but it'll be fine.
  3. Spread the tater tots evenly over the parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes or until done. You can follow the directions on the back of the package for this step if you want.
Assemble the Totchos with Ground Venison
  1. Take the tater tots out of the oven, evenly distribute the ground venison over the tater tots, and sprinkle cheese over the top.
  2. Put them back in the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
  3. Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy.
