Simple Southern Baked Beans

Making simple southern baked beans is a must for holidays, church get-togethers, and comfort food nights. These baked beans take a can of pork and beans and turn it into something special in no time.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb. bacon, cooked and crumbled into small pieces
  • 1-2 large onions (diced and cooked in the bacon grease)
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans of pork and beans (or your favorite baked bean)
  • 6 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 6 tbsp. ketchup
  • 10 tbsp. maple syrup

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°.
  2. Fry your bacon until crispy and then crumble it up. Or, cut it into small pieces prior to frying it. Drain on a paper towel lined plate.
  3. Saute your diced onion for about 7 minutes (until browned) in the bacon grease over medium heat.
  4. Mix the bacon, onion (with grease), pork and beans, mustard, ketchup, and maple syrup.
  5. Pour it into a casserole dish, cast iron skillet, or 8 x 8 inch pan, cover, and bake for 45-60 minutes.
