- Add the ham, split peas, onion, carrots, and salt and pepper to the crock pot.

- Carefully pour the boiling water over that and stir.

- Cook on high for 4 hours.
- If you used a ham hock, remove it from the crock pot, de-bone the meat, cut up the meat and add it back to the soup.
- Serve it with some crusty bread or salad and you are set. Enjoy!
