Hearty Split Pea Soup with Ham in the Crock Pot

When the weather turns cold, this is my go-to. A warm bowl of split pea soup with ham makes any chilly day feel cozy. This slow cooker recipe is simple, comforting, and full of flavor.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours
Course: Main Course

Ingredients

  • qt. water (boiling)
  • 1 ham hock, pieces of cut-up ham, or cut up ham steak
  • cups slit peas (one regular sized bag)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3-6 medium carrots, sliced or diced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Add the ham, split peas, onion, carrots, and salt and pepper to the crock pot.
  2. Carefully pour the boiling water over that and stir.
  3. Cook on high for 4 hours.
  4. If you used a ham hock, remove it from the crock pot, de-bone the meat, cut up the meat and add it back to the soup.
  5. Serve it with some crusty bread or salad and you are set. Enjoy!
