How to Use the S.Q.U.A.D. Bible Study Method
The SQUAD Bible Study Method is something I learned at church. It’s a simple method. It’s perfect for beginners. It’s also great for women who want to learn the Bible a little better, get to know the Lord more, and spend meaningful daily devotion time in God’s Word.
You don’t have to have a theology degree to do this. You don’t even need much time. This method helps you connect with the Holy Spirit, understand God’s character, and let His Word shape your everyday life.
Let’s break it down step-by-step. Oh, if you want to watch it in action, check out a few of my videos on it here.
S – Scripture
Start with Scripture. This is the main point and foundation. Ask, “What verse or Bible passage is God laying on my heart today?” Then write it out.
There’s something powerful about seeing the Word of God in your own handwriting. It slows you down. It helps the truth stick in your mind and move into your heart. The Bible is a two-edged sword, and when you write Scripture, it pierces through distractions and gets right to your soul.
If this is your first time studying the Bible on your own, don’t overthink it. Just pick a verse that stands out from your reading or devotional.
Q – Qualities of God
Now, look for the qualities of God. Who is God showing Himself to be in this verse? What do you see about His character? Is He generous? Patient? Mighty? Loving?
This part helps shift our focus off ourselves and back onto God. We start to see His consistency and goodness in every passage. The more we study, the more we recognize His voice and His heart.
This step turns a simple reading into worship.
U – Understanding
Next, focus on understanding. How does this verse help me understand God more? What truth about His character or His ways is the Holy Spirit revealing to me?
This is where head knowledge starts to move into heart change. The Word of God comes alive. Suddenly, you realize it’s not just an old book. It’s a living message from a loving God who wants to guide you through your faith journey.
This is the good news: God wants to be known.
A – Application
Now ask, “How will I live in light of who God is today?” This is the application step.
Here’s where God’s Word meets real life — school, work, parenting, marriage, or whatever your day holds.
When you apply truth, it becomes transformation. You start to see small, daily shifts in your thinking, your choices, and your reactions.
You don’t need a lot of time for this. Just one verse can change your day when you take a moment to ask how it should shape your response.
D – Doubts and False Beliefs
Finally, identify doubts or false beliefs that might keep you from fully embracing the truth you just read.
We all have them — lies that whisper, “God won’t help you,” or “You’re not enough.” But God’s Word replaces those lies with truth. This is how real spiritual growth happens.
Let Scripture cut through doubt and speak life. The Word of God is steady when our feelings are not.

It works for middle school students, busy moms, and seasoned believers alike. It’s a simple method that helps the truth of God’s Word take root in your heart and guide your daily walk.
With these simple steps, you can study any book of the Bible and discover the beauty of God’s character all over again.
Let’s Give The S.Q.U.A.D. Bible Study a Try
The SQUAD Bible Study Method isn’t about checking a box. It’s about spending time with God and letting His Word shape you.
If you’ve been wanting to get into Bible study but haven’t known where to start, this is your sign. Grab your Bible, your notebook, and maybe a cup of coffee. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you.

That’s how faith grows.
