How to Set Godly Goals (and Actually Stick to Them)
“You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
That quote from Atomic Habits hits hard, doesn’t it?
Because if you’re like me, setting goals feels inspiring… but staying consistent? That’s where it gets tricky. And here we are—halfway through the year—maybe wondering where all those big January dreams went.
But I want to remind you today: it’s not too late.
You don’t need a new year to start fresh.
You just need a little clarity, a little Scripture, and maybe a printable or two.

Why the Middle of the Year Is the Perfect Time to Reset
This whole blog post started because of something my son said the other day. He looked at me and asked, “How are your goals going? What do you want to achieve the rest of this year? Have you written them down?”
Y’all. That last part got me.
Because the science is clear:
Writing your goals down increases your chance of achieving them by 42%.
Scripture says the same thing:
“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” – Habakkuk 2:2
So I took some time, pulled out my journal, and started asking:
• What goals still matter to me this year?
• Which ones were mine… and which ones were God’s?
• And where do I need to reset—not to hustle harder, but to live more faithfully?

Step One: Set Your Goals WITH God
Before you grab a new planner or rework your to-do list, start with this question:
“Lord, what do You want to do in me and through me these next six months?”
Here’s a quick rhythm to try:
Start with prayer – even 5 quiet minutes.
Return to Scripture – Proverbs 16:3 reminds us,
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
Write down one verse that grounds your goal.
If you’re a printable person (me too!), I made something just for this called the Super Summer Challenge for Women. It’s free and helps you set simple goals across 4 areas—physical, mental, spiritual, and social—while also giving you a place to write your goals, reward yourself, and stay on track.

Step Two: Turn Goals into Systems
This is where most people stop: we write a big goal, feel inspired, then wonder why it fades by August.
Here’s the missing piece: Systems.
James Clear says:
“Goals are good for setting direction, but systems are best for making progress.”
So let’s break that down with 20 examples. These are common goals many Christian women and homemakers might set, along with a realistic, grace-filled system to make it stick.

20 Christian Goals + Simple Systems That Support Them
You don’t need more pressure—you need more peace. That’s why goals rooted in your identity in Christ and supported by simple systems can help you live intentionally without burnout. Here are 20 Christian goals you might set for the rest of this year, each paired with a small, doable system to help you follow through.
⸻
1. Goal: Start each day with peace.
System: Sit in silence with God for one minute before the day begins.
⸻
2. Goal: Stay rooted in Scripture.
System: Read one chapter of Proverbs each morning (or match the day of the month to the chapter).
⸻
3. Goal: Pray more consistently.
System: Set a recurring timer on your phone for a 3-minute prayer break at lunch.
⸻
4. Goal: Grow in gratitude.
System: Write down one thing you’re thankful for every night before bed.
⸻
5. Goal: Love your neighbor well.
System: Choose one person to text encouragement to each week.
⸻
6. Goal: Prioritize family connection.
System: Block out one “phone-free” hour each evening to be present.
⸻
7. Goal: Make room for Sabbath rest.
System: Pick one day a week to prep meals in advance so you can rest more on Sunday.
⸻
8. Goal: Speak life over yourself.
System: Write one biblical affirmation on a sticky note and put it on your bathroom mirror.
⸻
9. Goal: Be slow to anger.
System: Pause and say a breath prayer (“Lord, calm my heart”) before responding in conflict.
⸻
10. Goal: Steward your health for God’s glory.
System: Go for a 10-minute prayer walk daily.
⸻
11. Goal: Invest in biblical community.
System: Attend one small group or church gathering per week—even if you’re tired.
⸻
12. Goal: Model faith to your kids.
System: Read one short Bible verse with them at breakfast or bedtime.
⸻
13. Goal: Fill your mind with truth.
System: Listen to a faith-based podcast or worship playlist while folding laundry or driving.
⸻
14. Goal: Break free from comparison.
System: Take one day a week off social media completely.
⸻
15. Goal: Strengthen your marriage.
System: Ask your spouse one meaningful question every evening (even just “What was the best part of your day?”).
⸻
16. Goal: Simplify your life.
System: Declutter just one drawer or space each week with prayerful intention.
⸻
17. Goal: Be more generous.
System: Set aside a small envelope with a weekly amount to bless someone else.
⸻
18. Goal: Fight fear with faith.
System: Keep a “God’s faithfulness” journal and write down one moment a week when He showed up.
⸻
19. Goal: Live missionally, even at home.
System: Pray each morning: “Lord, show me who to serve today—and help me see it.”
⸻
20. Goal: Finish the Year closer to God than you started.
System: Do a monthly check-in with yourself and the Lord. Ask: “Where am I seeing growth? Where do I need grace?”
⸻
Let these goals guide you—but let God be the One who shapes them. Don’t aim for perfection. Aim for presence. Let small, sustainable systems help you walk with Him in every season, one intentional step at a time.
