The Easiest Simple Protein Balls with Protein Powder
If you love an easy, no-bake snack that tastes a little bit like cookie dough, you’re going to want to try these simple protein balls.
This recipe is one of those happy little discoveries that came from my recipe box. When I pulled out my Loaded Protein Balls recipe, I was surprised to find this one written right on the back!
So naturally, I had to make them both.
And I’m glad I did because while the two recipes are similar, they have completely different personalities.
These simple protein balls have a soft, sweet, cookie-dough-like texture that my husband absolutely loves. In fact, if you ask him which of the two recipes is his favorite, he’ll pick these every time.
Personally, I still prefer the loaded protein balls. I love the texture from the oats, coconut, chia seeds, and flaxseed.
But thankfully, I don’t have to choose!
My family enjoys both, so when I’m already making one batch, I usually go ahead and make the other, too. I’ve already got the ingredients out, the mixing bowl is on the counter, and it only takes a few extra minutes.
That’s my kind of recipe!

Protein Powder
You’ll need two scoops of your favorite high-quality protein powder. I recommend using one that you enjoy the flavor of because it’s one of the main ingredients in this recipe. We like vanilla around here for this recipe.
Chocolate Chips
The chocolate chips are what really give these that cookie dough feel.
I like using mini chocolate chips because they mix throughout the protein balls so you get a little chocolate in every bite.
Honey
Honey adds sweetness and helps hold everything together.
Natural Peanut Butter
I like using a natural peanut butter for these. You can use creamy or crunchy, but creamy peanut butter gives these more of that smooth cookie dough texture. Give it a good stir before use though.
How to Make Simple Protein Balls
This really couldn’t be easier.
Add your protein powder, chocolate chips, honey, and peanut butter to a bowl.
Mix everything together until well combined.
Once everything is mixed, place the bowl in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes.
This makes the mixture easier to handle and roll.
After chilling, scoop out small portions and roll them between your hands to form balls.
Place them in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator.
That’s it!
No oven required.

My Favorite Way to Make Both Recipes
If you’ve read my Loaded Protein Balls recipe, you know that one is packed with oats, coconut, flaxseed, chia seeds, peanut butter, and chocolate chips.
They’re both delicious, but they’re different.
The loaded protein balls have more texture and a little more going on with all those oats and seeds. That’s the one I personally reach for.
These simple protein balls are smoother and sweeter, with that soft cookie dough vibe.
My husband prefers these.
And since my family likes both, I usually make them together.
I’ll pull out the peanut butter, honey, chocolate chips, and protein powder for this recipe, and then I’ll go ahead and make the loaded version while everything is already on the counter.
It’s hardly any extra work, and then we have two different snacks waiting in the refrigerator.
Honestly, that’s one of my favorite ways to cook and bake—make a little extra while you’re already in the kitchen.
How to Store Protein Balls
Store these simple protein balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
They’re easy to grab whenever you need a quick snack.
I love having homemade snacks like these ready to go because it makes busy days a little easier.
Can You Customize These Protein Balls?
Absolutely!
The beauty of a simple recipe like this is that you can make it your own.
Try:
- Mini chocolate chips
- Dark chocolate chips
- Milk chocolate chips
- A different flavor of protein powder
- Crunchy peanut butter for a little texture
You could even make a batch with different add-ins and see which combination your family likes best.
