5 Things Godly Women Do (And How to Become One)

What does it really look like to be a godly woman? Sometimes we can make this more complicated than it needs to be. We might think about all the things we should be doing or all the ways we need to improve. But when we look at Scripture, we begin to see some very practical habits of a godly woman that we can incorporate into our everyday lives.

Being a godly woman isn’t about having a perfect home, a perfect schedule, or having everything figured out. It’s about having a heart that wants to honor the Lord in all that we do.

Whether you’re a wife, mother, homemaker, working woman, or simply wanting to grow in your relationship with the Lord, there are practical ways to become more intentional about living out your faith.

Today, we’re looking at five things godly women do and how we can put these biblical principles into practice in our everyday lives.

1. Godly Women Surround Themselves With Other Godly Women

One of the first things you’ll notice about a godly woman is that she values relationships with other women who are also pursuing the Lord.

In Titus 2:3-5, Paul gives instructions about how older women are to live in a way that honors God and teach what is good. They’re encouraged to teach and encourage younger women in their marriages, families, and everyday responsibilities.

This passage gives us a beautiful picture of women encouraging one another in their walk with the Lord.

We need other godly women in our lives. We need women who encourage us, pray with us, share wisdom, and point us back to Scripture when we need it.

But how do you actually find godly women to surround yourself with?

Look for the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

These are qualities you’ll begin to recognize in a woman who is walking with the Lord. She’s not perfect, but her life reflects her faith.

You’ll also see a woman who is faithful to her family, her spouse, and her church. Her conversations and priorities will often give you a glimpse into what’s important to her.

Sometimes these friendships happen very naturally.

You might meet other women through a workout group, a neighborhood gathering, a Bible study, or even through your children’s activities. It might take some time to get to know one another, but as you spend time together, you’ll begin to learn more about their faith and what matters to them.

Your church is another wonderful place to start. Visit your church’s website and look for women’s groups or Bible studies. Some meet at the church, while others gather in someone’s home.

Be willing to show up, get involved, and build relationships.

And remember, surrounding yourself with godly women isn’t just about finding women who encourage you. It’s also about becoming that kind of woman for someone else.

2. Godly Women Make Time for God’s Word

Another important habit of a godly woman is spending time in Scripture.

You’ll often find her Bible sitting on her nightstand, beside her favorite chair, or somewhere she can easily reach it.

But it’s not just sitting there collecting dust. She’s opening it, reading it, and making time to learn more about the Lord.

Second Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us that all Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, correcting, and training in righteousness.

God’s Word teaches us more about who He is and how He wants us to live. It helps us grow in wisdom, recognize areas where we need to change, and learn how to make decisions that honor Him.

And spending time in God’s Word doesn’t mean you always understand everything you’re reading.

There are times when you’ll need to learn more about the history, the context, the author, and who a particular passage was originally written to. These are all important parts of studying Scripture.

But don’t let not understanding everything keep you from opening your Bible in the first place.

Start by reading. Spend time with the Lord. Ask Him for wisdom and understanding.

A godly woman isn’t just turning to her Bible when something goes wrong. She’s making time for God’s Word regularly.

She’s also intentional about bringing Scripture into her home.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 gives us a beautiful picture of teaching our children about the Lord throughout everyday life.

It describes talking about God’s commands while sitting at home, walking along the road, lying down, and getting up.

I love how practical this is.

Teaching our children about the Lord doesn’t always require a formal Bible lesson. It can be part of our everyday conversations.

When a situation comes up, we can point our children back to what Scripture says. We can talk about what we’re learning and encourage our families to seek the Lord.

A godly woman understands the importance of having God’s Word in her own heart and sharing it with those in her home.

3. Godly Women Serve Faithfully

Another thing you’ll see a godly woman doing is serving faithfully.

And this starts right in her own home.

It might look like teaching her children about the Lord, preparing meals for her family, caring for her home, and being intentional about the people God has placed in her life.

But serving also extends beyond the home.

Maybe she’s volunteering at her church once a month. Maybe she’s opening her home for a Bible study and inviting other women over to talk about the Lord, what they’re learning, and what’s happening in their families.

Sometimes serving simply looks like making room for someone else.

You’ll also notice that a godly woman is often the person who goes a little above and beyond.

She’s willing to stay after and help clean up. She’s willing to get there early, lend a hand, or help someone who needs it.

You might hear someone say, “Well, I’m not getting paid to do that, so I’m not going to do it.”

But a godly woman understands that serving isn’t always about what she gets in return.

Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us to work at whatever we do with all our hearts, as working for the Lord rather than simply working for people.

I love this reminder because it changes the way we look at our everyday responsibilities.

Whether we’re serving our families, helping at church, or doing something for a neighbor, we can approach those things with a heart that wants to honor the Lord.

Serving faithfully also means showing up in the ordinary responsibilities of everyday life.

It’s running the kids where they need to be. It’s taking dinner to a friend who’s going through a difficult time. It’s showing up to support your children at their games. It’s making time for meaningful conversations with your husband.

It’s the cooking, the cleaning, the errands, and all those little things that might not seem very important.

But these ordinary responsibilities matter, too.

A godly woman understands that serving isn’t limited to volunteering or participating in a church activity. It’s also about faithfully caring for the people God has placed in her life.

4. Godly Women Are Good Stewards of What God Has Given Them

One of the most practical habits of a godly woman is being intentional with what God has entrusted to her.

Stewardship includes several different areas of our lives. It isn’t just about money. It also includes our bodies, our time, and the resources we have.

Stewarding Your Finances

A godly woman is intentional with her finances.

She knows what she’s spending, makes a budget, plans ahead, and looks for ways to be wise with what her family has.

She’s also looking for opportunities to give. Maybe that’s giving to her church, helping a family member, or meeting a need for someone around her.

And stewardship doesn’t just mean how much money you make or how much you have.

If you’re not working outside the home, there are still so many ways to contribute to your family’s finances.

Maybe you’re finding ways to save money by eating at home instead of going out, packing lunches instead of buying them, or planning meals around what you already have.

These are practical ways to be intentional with what God has given you.

Stewarding Your Body

Another important part of stewardship is caring for the body God has given you.

First Corinthians 6:19-20 reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and that we are called to honor God with our bodies.

Taking care of ourselves isn’t about looking a certain way or reaching a particular number on the scale.

It’s about caring for the body God has entrusted to us.

That might look like fueling our bodies with good food, getting outside for a walk, exercising, or lifting weights.

We’re taking care of our bodies so we can continue doing the things God has called us to do.

Stewarding Your Time

Another area of stewardship that’s so important is our time.

Ephesians 5:15-16 encourages us to be careful how we live and make the most of every opportunity.

Our time is valuable, and we should be intentional about how we’re using it.

Practically, this might look like having a calendar and writing down what needs to be done. It means knowing your priorities, planning ahead when you can, and being mindful of where your time is going.

Here are a few simple ways to be more intentional with your time at home:

  • Use a calendar: Write down appointments, activities, important dates, and things you need to accomplish.
  • Try the two-minute rule: If something isn’t going to take more than a couple of minutes, go ahead and take care of it.
  • Move through the flow of your home: Put things away as you go instead of leaving everything for later.
  • Keep things organized: Give the things you use regularly a place to belong.
  • Declutter when needed: Spend a little time removing things you no longer need so your home is easier to maintain.

These little habits can make such a difference in how our homes function and how we use our time.

The point is that a godly woman isn’t just letting everything happen around her. She’s being intentional with the time, money, body, and resources God has entrusted to her.

5. Godly Women Know Who They Are in Christ

The last thing I want to talk about is knowing who you are in Christ.

A godly woman knows she’s a child of God, and she knows that she needs her Father’s help.

She doesn’t go through life thinking she can do everything on her own. She knows she needs the Lord, and she’s not afraid to depend on Him.

Romans 8:14-16 reminds us that those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. It also tells us that we have received the Spirit of adoption and can call God our Father.

I love that reminder because it tells us something about our relationship with the Lord.

We’re not just trying to get through life on our own. We belong to Him, and we can depend on Him.

A godly woman understands that God has gifted her with the Holy Spirit to guide and help her.

She also understands that she’s in a spiritual battle.

Ephesians 6:10-18 teaches us about putting on the full armor of God so that we can stand against the schemes of the devil.

We read about the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

A godly woman understands that she needs to be equipped with God’s truth. She needs to guard her heart and mind and stay close to the Lord.

And because she knows who she is in Christ, she also understands what her priorities should be.

Her relationship with the Lord comes first. Her relationship with her family is important. And from there, she can be intentional with the other people and responsibilities God has placed in her life.

She knows that she doesn’t have to do everything, be everything, or say yes to every opportunity.

She can prayerfully consider where God is leading her and be faithful with what’s already placed in front of her.

Being a godly woman isn’t about trying to do more and more until we’re completely worn out.

It’s about knowing who we belong to, understanding what He’s called us to, and faithfully walking that out one day at a time.

Final Thoughts on Becoming a Godly Woman

When we look at Scripture, we see that becoming a godly woman isn’t about perfection. It’s about growing in our relationship with the Lord and allowing our faith to influence the way we live each day.

A godly woman surrounds herself with other godly women, makes time for God’s Word, serves faithfully, stewards what God has given her, and knows who she is in Christ.

We’re all growing and learning, and there are going to be days when we fall short.

But we can continue to seek the Lord, ask Him for wisdom, and be faithful with the things He’s placed right in front of us.

You don’t need a perfect home, a perfect schedule, or a perfect life to become a godly woman.

You simply need a heart that wants to honor the Lord in all that you do.

And that’s something we can work toward every single day.
