10 More Things I No Longer Do as a Homemaker (That Made My Home Feel Calmer)
There was a season where homemaking felt harder than it should have.
Not because I wasn’t trying—but because I was trying to do everything, all the time, in a way that felt “right.”
Over time, I started noticing something important:
Most of the stress in my home didn’t come from what I wasn’t doing…
It came from the things I kept doing that I didn’t actually need to do anymore.
So today I want to share 10 more things I no longer do as a homemaker—and how letting them go has made my home feel calmer, simpler, and much easier to maintain.
And if you want a simple checklist to go along with this post, I created a free printable you can download here:

1. I no longer try to clean everything in one day
I used to believe I needed full “reset days” to catch up.
But those days always left me exhausted, and the house still didn’t feel truly manageable for long.
Now I focus on small, consistent cleaning instead of big overwhelm days.
2. I stopped waiting to do things perfectly
If I couldn’t do something fully or perfectly, I used to delay it.
Now I’ve learned that “done imperfectly” is far better than not done at all.
3. I no longer assign chores to rigid days
Instead of “Monday laundry, Tuesday cleaning,” I now just do things as I notice them.
This alone has made my home feel more flexible and less stressful.
4. I stopped overcomplicating meals
I used to think every meal needed to be intentional and from scratch.
Now I lean into simple meals more often, and it’s taken so much pressure off my evenings.
5. I no longer try to keep up with everything at once
There was a time I wanted every area of my home to be equally “on top of.”
Now I focus on what matters most in this season—and let the rest be good enough.

6. I stopped re-cleaning things that are already clean
This was a big one for me.
If something is clean, I let it be clean.
Not “perfect.” Not “redo it just because.” Just done.
7. I no longer wait to rest until everything is finished
Because everything is never truly finished.
Now I allow myself to rest in the middle of homemaking instead of waiting for an imaginary finish line.
8. I stopped holding onto things “just in case”
Letting go of unused items has made my home so much easier to manage.
Less stuff means less to clean, organize, and think about.
9. I no longer try to do everything alone
Even small help from others in the home makes a big difference.
Homemaking doesn’t have to mean doing it all yourself.
10. I stopped thinking my home has to look perfect to be well-run
A peaceful home isn’t about appearance.
It’s about how it feels to live in it.
And this shift alone changed everything for me.
A Gentle Reminder
If homemaking has been feeling heavier lately, you might not need a new routine or more discipline.
You might just need to let a few things go.
Small simplifications really do add up over time.
